Thema: We want to launch more channels tapping into the market knowledge Alterna’TV already has

Maribel Ramos-Weiner| 15 de abril de 2016

The French company Canal+, through its subsidiary Thema, has just purchased Alterna’TV (which used to be owned by Eutelsat) in order to increase its presence in the US and to complement Canadian pay TV channel distributor Terra´s offer, which they purchased in 2016. This was confirmed to PRODU by François Thiellet CEO of Thema.“The goal is to enter and cover all the American region and to launch new and more channels with Latino content and later on European content. We will also tap into the synergy we have with the other companies owned by Vivendi, owner of Canal+. Latin America is a priority for us”, added Patrick Rivet, senior VP of Distribution. The company’s next step is to define what type of contents and channels they are going to launch in the region, using the resources, experience and contact with operators that Alterna’TV has in the region. Also to enter new territories.“We know the market is going through difficult times, but we have many expectations and the advantage that there is a common language”, pointed out Thiellet. He highlighted that another of the main goals is to reach millennials, a group that is increasingly difficult to approach through traditional media. In order to do this, they will implement strategies (as they have done in France) to broadcast through different devices and through VOD.Thema currently has more than 100 channels in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and North America.
